Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Kaun ("we", "our", or "us") handles information when you use the Kaun mobile app and this website. Kaun is offline-first: recipes, meal plans, and grocery lists are stored on your device by default. You can use Kaun without creating an account.

We collect only what is needed to run and improve the app. An optional display name and an anonymous device identifier may be stored on your phone. The anonymous identifier may also be sent to our analytics and crash-reporting providers (described below) so we can understand feature usage and fix bugs — not for advertising or selling your data. Content you create stays on your device unless you choose to sync or share it. We do not collect your email, payment details, or location during normal app use unless you contact support or create an account.

If you create an account or enable cloud sync, we may store your sign-in details and selected app data on our servers so you can access it across devices. Sync and accounts are optional; core features remain available offline. When you share a recipe, grocery list, or meal plan template via link, a copy of that content — and any attached image — is stored on our servers (via Supabase) only to generate and serve the share link. We do not use shared content for advertising or unrelated purposes.

Some features require internet, such as importing a recipe from a URL, opening a share link, syncing (when enabled), and sending diagnostics. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing. Kaun uses Supabase to host shared link content when you choose to share (Supabase privacy policy). If Kaun Plus or other subscriptions are offered, Apple or Google process payment; their privacy policies apply to those transactions.

To improve the product and keep it reliable, Kaun uses:

• PostHog for product analytics (for example, which features are used, and aggregate event properties such as counts or feature names — not recipe titles, free-text search queries, or share URLs as content). See the PostHog privacy policy.
• Sentry for crash and error reporting (technical diagnostics such as stack traces, device/app version, and related context so we can fix bugs). See the Sentry privacy policy.

These providers process data on our behalf. We configure them to avoid unnecessary personal information where practical (for example, default PII collection in Sentry is off). Analytics and crash reports may include device and app metadata (such as OS version and app build) and the anonymous identifier described above.

Data on your device is kept until you uninstall the app or clear its data. Shared content on our servers is temporary and may expire or be deleted when the link is no longer needed. You may request deletion of shared content by contacting us. Analytics and crash data retained by our providers is kept according to their retention settings and our need to operate the Service. Kaun is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your data.
